STEP 1: Finding Your Makeup Style

In the picture above, we can see that Selena Gomez, has done her makeup perfectly according to her features. From her eyebrows to her winged eyeliner and the shades of her blush, eyeshadow, and lip combo, she has nailed the makeup look beautifully.

Finding your makeup style can be really challenging, especially as a beginner. Our biggest tip of advice for this step in your makeup journey is using your celebrity look-alike to your advantage. Find someone who looks like you, and see how they do their makeup. For example, if you look like the beautiful Selena Gomez or have features similar to hers, you may want to take some inspiration from her makeup style. Likewise, if you have a similar eye shape or skin tone as someone who does their makeup beautifully, it may benefit your makeup style to take inspiration from them and do your makeup similar to theirs.

STEP 2: Using the Right Products for YOU

Using the right products for your skin can definitely be a roller coster ride, especially if you are new to makeup. Understanding your skin type can determine the outcome of your makeup. If you have particularly dry skin, then use products that will hydrate your skin, especially primer, foundation, and other skin products.

ACCORDING TO YOUR SKIN TONE:

If you have a warmer skin tone, use blush that will align with the warmth of your skin. Likewise, if you have neutral or cool toned skin, use cool toned blush to fully accentuate your features. P.S: Our blush collection has a wide range of blush shades that you can choose from.

ACCORDING TO YOUR EYE COLOR:

You want to use eyeshadows that will compliment your eye color and your skin tone as well. If you have dark brown eyes, using bright shades like purple and green will accentuate your eye color. If you have green eyes, using bright shades like orange and purple will accentuate your eye color and make it pop more. If we look at Adriana Lima's eye look (above), we can see that her eyes are usually done with black eyeliner and a smokey eye look, which accentuates her blue eyes. For blue eyes, darker eyeshadow looks will make your eyes pop, like a black smokey eye. You can find many different selections of eyeshadows on our website by clicking this link.

STEP 3: Understanding Your Undertone

Undertones are a crucial step in understanding your facial harmony and makeup style. Everyone has one of three undertones: warm, cool, or neutral. These can expand to pink, purple, and so on, however, our undertones root from red, blue, and green.

  • Reddish undertones are warm
  • Blue undertones are cool
  • Green undertones are neutral

Figuring out what your undertone is will help you and guide you towards colors that look good on your skin, as well as picking foundation, which will make your makeup look suited to your features.

That being said, it is vital that you pay attention to your undertone when buying foundation, which can be a daunting task. Brands usually have the letters N or W in the foundation description, which means "neutral" or "warm". If you have a cool undertone, you can buy foundation that doesn't include these two descriptions.

Why are undertones important?

Undertone matters for:

  • blush shades
  • eyeshadow shades
  • foundation shades
  • contour/bronzer shades

Overall, your undertone will determine how the colors harmonize on your complexion, which is why paying particular attention to how your undertone looks will help you achieve the best makeup for your skin.

STEP 4: Doing Your Makeup To Accentuate Your Features

The final step in doing your makeup to enhance your features is doing your makeup according to your existing features. Let us explain!

Every part of your face has beautiful features, and it is important to give justice to each of your features by accentuating them. For example, if you have big lips, make them bigger, if you have long eyes, make them longer, if you have high cheek bones, accentuate them with contour. Let's break down what you should do for each of your features in simple words!

For Eye Shape:

LONG: accentuate your long eyes by doing winged eyeliner, you can take it a step further by putting tiny points of eyeliner in the inner corner to give you the cat eye effect.

WIDE: accentuate your wide, beautiful eyes by avoiding winged eyeliner and applying eyeliner only to your eyelid and smudging it out, this will make your eyes pop even more beautifully!

For Lip Shape:

For your lips, you want to accentuate the shape that you have. If they are pouty, make them poutier, if your top lip is smaller than your bottom lip, make your bottom lip bigger. If your lips are long, make them longer, and so on and so forth.

Overall, you want to accentuate what is already there, which will enhance your makeup and make you really own it! As always, do your makeup however you'd like, you are beautiful anyway, and continue to shine as brightly as you do! Be Beautiful, Be You.
